Canberra | Australia - Myanmar B2G Leaders’ Dialogue
On 19 March 2018, AustCham Myanmar hosted the Australia - Myanmar B2G Leaders’ Dialogue at a dinner in Canberra, Australia.
This dinner was attended by H.E. U Thaung Tun (Union Minister for the Office of the Union Government) and H.E. U Kyawt Tin (Union Minister for International Co-Operation), as well as Myanmar’s Ambassador to Australia, H.E U Tha Aung Nyunt and Australia’s Ambassador to Myanmar, H.E. Nicholas Coppel. Representatives from the 10 largest and most active Australian companies currently operating in Myanmar and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission were also in attendance.
The dialogue was an opportunity for Australian businesses to showcase the work they are already undertaking in Myanmar, as well as provide details to the Myanmar Government as to the further capacity they have to continue to assist Myanmar in its goals for peace, prosperity and democracy.
Australian business representatives were also given the opportunity to raise any particular issues or concerns facing their businesses and relevant sectors as the dialogue was held in an open forum with direct access to the Myanmar ministers and government officials.
As Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was unable to attend at the last minute due to ill-health, AustCham Myanmar is now liaising with Myanmar Government Officials to arrange a meeting directly with the State Counsellor as a follow up to the hugely successful Australia - Myanmar B2G Leaders’ Dialogue in Canberra.
